Reception and Office Work in Paris and Sologne -3rd year abroad
After completing a really successful ‘stage’ in the Auvergne after my first year at university, I decided that I would do another during my year abroad. Catherine found me two placements, the first in a Youth Hostel in Paris and the second in a holiday village in Sologne. The first placement was a fantastic opportunity living in Paris and learning the skills and vocabulary to work on reception at a very busy Hostel. The second placement went even better. Working on reception I answered the phone and emails, I wrote out quotes and contracts for groups of over 100 people, all in French. With 99% of the guests being French and very large French team, my French improved amazingly. I had the best summer of my life, meeting brilliant people, immersing myself in French culture, as well as finally becoming fluent.
Animateur in les Sables d'Olonne, Vendée
My stage in Les Sables d'Olonne was brilliant. My french improved drastically, I made some great friends, I tried out things I wouldn't have dreamed of doing and obviously got a great tan... I worked as an 'animateur', which meant simply that I would help out with the organised activities during the week. I ended up spending the majority of the time with the youth club (14-17 years old), playing lots of beach volleyball, lots of music quizzes and lots of 'loup-garous'. The food was great, the staff were all super friendly and if you're really lucky
you get to dress up as boot'chouette
- the massive cuddly owl village
mascot. Even if you're just looking
to improve your French its an
invaluable experience - I learnt ten times more during the 'stage' than I have done during my ERASMUS placement in Lyon. Do it, you won't regret it!
Reception and Office Work, French Riviera
I spent 3 months working in a youth hostel in Sète, France. I had a brilliant time and the skills and experience I have acquired as a result of this placement have and will be invaluable. The work placement not only greatly improved my language skills (and allowed me to use them in a working environment), but also gave me the opportunity to experience
living in France.All the staff
were very friendly and helpful
and working in a youth hostel
allowed me to meet a variety
of different people. I was able
to build a network of useful contacts for the future and to make some amazing friends! I found ‘Boost your French’ incredibly helpful throughout my entire placement.
Play worker, central France
I've just returned from VVF Vendes and wanted to thank you for helping me find the placement as an animatrice in a children's club. My initial misgivings (because of the total lack of communication from the employer) were dispelled as soon as I arrived in Vendes. Everyone was very kind and friendly and I felt immediately at ease and at home.
I had a really enjoyable summer there - I loved working with the children and got on really well with all the other staff. The time went far too quickly!
My French most definitely
improved, and I now feel
very confident and fearless
about moving to Grenoble
in a couple of days and
joining a university there
as an Erasmus student.
Thank you once again.
Kids Animator in the Alps
My placement in Montchavin was one of the best experiences I've ever had! After spending 6 months teaching in Lille with a large English-speaking community, I was motivated to find a placement which would offer me more immersion in French. Montchavin was exactly that - I was doing animation with a big group of other young French people from over the country and hardly ever got the opportunity to speak English. I was already used to working with kids but it was really challenging at first to build relationships with children who are there on holiday (as opposed to teaching in a school). The people I worked with, however, were so welcoming and helpful and I've made friends I'll keep for a long time. I was most excited by the fact that
I managed to interact with French - speakers on a level that made me feel like I was one of them. I'm incredibly happy to have had this opportunity and couldn't have been luckier to be placed i abeautiful village in the Alps with an amazing team who invested their time in helping me with my language, as well as getting the most out of my job.
Reception Work and Animator in Children’s Club, in the Pyrenees
I had just finished my A Levels and wanted to improve my level of French before going to study it at university and a month long work placement organised by Boost Your French was the perfect opportunity to do this. From the moment I arrived, the other members of staff were so welcoming and friendly and I immediately felt as if I was part of the team. Working in the office and on the reception was challenging but also rewarding when I was able to help resolve issues that the holidaymakers had whilst working in the kids club was fun and also a great opportunity to practise my spoken French. Outside of work I often socialised with the other staff, going to a local festival and cooking with them as well as exploring a region of France that I had not visited before. Overall, the placement was a brilliant experience which has no doubt improved my confidence in French and I would definitely consider using Boost Your French in the future.”
